Music and lyrics

Musically, the album presents itself in the usual big band style of Udo Jürgens. The palette of musical elements ranges from cheerful, lively hits to melancholy, reflective compositions.

Most of the songs have autobiographical traits. Among other things, they deal with composing and writing songs ( until the end of my songs ) or are to be understood as self-criticism ( my way to me ). Women was inspired by Herbert Grönemeyer's men and contains a “cheeky declaration of love” to women. The title song, on the other hand, is a kind of perseverance hymn for today's people. In this, Udo Jürgens contrasts ubiquitous discouragement and melancholy with the enjoyment of life and calls on the audience to "leave the melancholy and look positively ahead". The song can also be understood as a statement on the current situation in Germany. The man with the bassoon is about Udo Jürgen's grandfather. It is also the title of a novel by Udo Jürgens, which was made into a television film in 2011 . The title of Damned in All Solitude was inspired by the film Damned in All Eternity and is in the tradition of I know what I want .

reception

The album reached number 2 on the Austrian album charts. In Germany it came in 14th place and in Switzerland in 45th place.

Although Udo Juergen's singing qualities, the mostly successful compositions and the lyrics are praised, the album is certified as having an “old-fashioned arrangement presentation”, which makes it stand out only marginally from his album Es lebe das Vastre , which is rated as average : “That's enough close, very close for a positive album review. This is primarily due to the still fascinating presence of Udo's unmistakable voice and a mostly well-elaborated song work. Because even uninspired arrangements cannot completely destroy it. "
