Evgeni Valerianowitsch Samoilow ( Russian Евгений Валерианович Самойлов , scientific transliteration Evgenij Valerianovič Samojlov ; born April 3 jul. / April 16,  1912 greg. In Saint Petersburg ; † February 17, 2006 in Moscow ) was a Russian actor . He is the father of the actress Tatyana Samoilova .

Life

Samoilov was born in Saint Petersburg and first graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic, also appeared in amateur drama groups before devoting himself entirely to his passion - acting. He played theater from 1930 and belonged to Wiwlena's theater group for several years until he joined the group around the experimental theater director Wsevolod Meyerhold in 1934 , with whom he worked until 1938. In the following years he belonged to various Moscow theaters. From 1940 to 1967 he also played at the Mayakovsky Theater in Moscow.

In 1936, Samoyilov embarked on an extensive film career, but was initially only used in historical and entertaining films. Due to his lack of popularity, he was initially offered smaller roles, such as in his debut film A Coincidental Encounter , a comedy by Igor Savchenko. Leading film directors initially shied away from an engagement with Samilow, but he still worked in films like A Life , which was later censored. However, he gained a lot of attention three years later with the film Shchors (1939) by director Oleksandr Dowschenko , for which Samoilov won the first of a total of three state film awards. One of his most important films was certainly Admiral Nakhimov (1946), in which he fought against the Turks alongside Alexei Diki as Burunov officer.

He was honored as a People's Artist of Russia in 1954 and as a People's Artist of the USSR in 1974 .
