Admiral Nakhimov is a major USSR film made in 1946 by the director Vsevolod Pudovkin . The book was by Igor Lukowski .

Pudovkin shot the film as a character study about the admiral and defender of Sevastopol , Pavel Nakhimov († 1855), who was revered in Russia , but had to change the film significantly under Stalin's censorship . The USSR authorities demanded a film with a superficial representation of Nakhimov as a war hero. Despite the heavy censorship, the film is considered an important post-war Soviet work. Performances also took place abroad.

content

The film portrays historical events of the Crimean War , beginning with the victory of the Russian fleet under Admiral Nakhimov over the Turkish opponents in 1853.

Reviews

“Historical monumental film about the Crimean War 1853–1856: heroic deeds of the Russian fleet commander in defeating the Turkish naval power in the Bay of Sinop and his death in the battle for Sevastopol. Historical connections are recorded in order to glorify Soviet naval power. "
