Evgraf Semjonowitsch Sorokin ( Russian Евгра́ф Семёнович Соро́кин , scientific transliteration Evgraf Semënovič Sorokin ; born December 6, 1821 in Bolschije Soli in the Kostroma governorate , today Nekrasovskoye in Moscow , who was primarily a Russian painter in 1892 ; territory in Moscow, Russia ) History painting, religious painting and genre painting was active and became known.

He received his first training in painting from a local artist in Yaroslavl . In 1841 he was accepted into the Russian Art Academy in Saint Petersburg . In 1845 he finished his training here and went to other European countries for a few years. He visited Germany , Belgium , France and Spain as well as Syria and Egypt . Returning to Russia, he was appointed Academician of the Arts. In 1859 he taught in the drawing class at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture . In 1878 he was appointed professor .

Sorokin created icons and murals with the images of the evangelists ; in addition, a number of paintings were created that depict scenes from life in Italy and Spain . In the 1860s, he directed work on Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior .
