Lake Bukowo , in German Buckower See , is a beach lake in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship , which is separated from the Baltic Sea by a spit .
Geographical location
Lake Bukowo is located in Western Pomerania , southwest of Darłowo ( Rügenwalde ) in the northern powiat Sławieński ( Schlawe ). Name-giving place is the village Bukowo Morskie ( Lake Buckow ), which is now a district of Gmina Darłowo and has 425 inhabitants.
description
The Buckower See is a former lagoon , from which a 17.47 km² large, up to 2.50 meter deep lake with a length of 8.50 kilometers and the greatest width of 3.20 kilometers was created. The Baltic Sea side borders the Spit . The land side is bordered by meadows and pastures through which numerous streams (the largest of them is the Nowo Rów ( Neuer Graben )) meander, which flow into the Buckower See.
history
In 1261 Duke Swantopolk II of Pomerellen lent the lake to Buckow Monastery , and in 1269 Duke Barnim I.
The village of Dąbkowice ( Damkerort ) was founded on the spit . The village was in constant danger of flooding the six-kilometer-long Dąbki ( Neuwasser ) route, making the boat the most important means of transport. On New Year's Eve 1921/22, the lake outflow, the so-called “Deep”, was widened to 900 meters in a storm surge .
