Floridus Röhrig
Floridus Röhrig CanReg (* as Helmut Röhrig on August 27, 1927 in Vienna ; † April 28, 2014 in Klosterneuburg ) was an Austrian Augustinian canon , church historian, librarian and archivist.
Life
Due to the war, Röhrig was employed in the City of Vienna's Department of Culture in 1944/45 with the salvage of cultural goods. Immediately after the end of the war in 1945, he began studying history and art history at the University of Vienna. On his 21st birthday, on August 27, 1948, Helmut Röhrig joined the Augustinian Canons of Klosterneuburg and was given the religious name Floridus . In 1954 he was ordained a priest after taking religious vows in 1952 . In addition to Catholic theology he studied at the Vienna University of history and art history , and in 1951 the Doctor ofPhD in philosophy . In 1959 he passed the state examination at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research with distinction. A year later he was in Vienna for a doctor of theology doctorate . He designed and managed the reconstruction of the Klosterneuburg monastery archive and the associated reorganization of the holdings of one of the most important monastery archives in German-speaking countries.
Röhrig taught - since 1986 as a university lecturer, since 1992 as an associate professor - at the Institute for Church History of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . For many years he was professor of church history at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey .
He headed the library and archive of the Canons' Monastery and has presented several significant scientific studies on the history of his monastery and its art treasures. Röhrig was a recognized expert on the history of Margrave Leopold III. .
