Jiří Brabec (literary critic)
Jiří Brabec (born October 28, 1929 in Kněževes ) is a Czech literary critic and historian .
Life
After graduating from high school , he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague in the subject of Czech language and history. In 1955 he accepted a position at the Institute for Czech Literature. He worked there until 1971, but then had to leave the institute for political reasons. During this time he also lectured on Czech literature at the philosophical faculty. After his release he worked as a worker and only published in the journals published abroad. Since 1990 he has been a lecturer in 20th century Czech literature at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University. Brabec is a member of the Obec spisovatelů (Czech Writers' Union). He is the father of the writer Zuzana Brabcová .
Works
He is interested in the literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to his own books, he published studies and articles on Czech literature. He also works as an editor.
