Jiří Jan Lobkowicz

Jiří Jan Lobkowicz (born April 23, 1956 in Zurich ) is a Czech politician. He is chairman of the Cesta změny ( Path of Change ) party, which he co-founded in late 2001 before the Czech parliamentary elections in 2002, and one of the deputy chairmen of the European Democratic Party, of which he was also a co-founder.

Life

Jiří Jan Lobkowicz is a member of the noble Lobkowicz family . He was born in Switzerland and lived in Geneva during the communist rule . After the Velvet Revolution , he returned to Czechoslovakia and assumed Czechoslovak (now Czech ) citizenship.

After his return he received the property confiscated in 1948 by the then communist government of the country back by way of restitution . This includes four castles - including Mělník Castle  - a Prague town house, around 400 to 500 hectares of arable and pasture land, a wine-growing business with 135 hectares of vineyards and a further 2500 hectares of land from his father's former property.

In addition to managing the assets, he worked as an advisor to various ministries and was or is a member of the supervisory board of several companies. For a while he was deputy chairman of the Union for Freedom Party Unie svobody .

Since October 2011 he has been divorced from his first wife Bettina, née Egli, who came to the Czech Republic with him from Switzerland. His new life partner is the opera singer Zdenka Belas , also the artistic director of his festival IMusicFest of George Lobkowicz . On December 22, 2012, Zdenka Belas gave birth to their son Robert Christian Lobkowicz.
