Jiří Mainuš

Jiří Mainuš (born January 8, 1945 in Jakartovice ) is a former Czechoslovak cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Jiří Mainuš started for the club TJ Ostroj Opava . He had his first major success in 1967 with a stage win in the Tour of Poland . In 1970 he won the British Milk Race with a stage win . In August of that year he won the silver medal at the UCI Road World Championships in Leicester in the team time trial . A year later he started the International Peace Tour and finished eleventh in the overall ranking. This result remained his best result on the peace drive. In 1972 he was nominated for participation in the Summer Olympics in Munich . There he started in the team time trial and finished 13th with the Czech team. He also proved his time trial qualities by winning the national title twice in the individual time trial (1972 and 1973) and in the team time trial in 1971.

Mainus later emigrated to the USA , where he worked as a cycling trainer .
