Jiří Poner (born February 9, 1964 in Pardubice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player . He played as a striker in the ice hockey Bundesliga, among others .

career

Poner started as a junior player in 1981 with the junior team of HC Sparta Prague before joining the junior team of EV Landshut in 1982 . In the 1984 NHL Entry Draft , the young talent was drawn by the Minnesota North Stars in the fifth round in 89th place, but never played in the NHL . He spent the following two years with the Indianapolis Checkers , Springfield Indians and Muskegon Lumberjacks in the IHL and AHL, respectively . In 1986 he was able to achieve 68 scorer points in 79 games with the Lumberjacks and won the Turner Cup with the team . In the long term, however, Poner saw no further opportunities in North America and moved back to Europe to EV Landshut. Poner developed into one of the top scorers in the ice hockey Bundesliga and scored 54 times in the opposing goal for the team from Landshut in three years. From 1989 he played for two years with the Kölner Haien , but statistically could not match his great performances in Landshut. In his last year in Cologne he was German ice hockey runner-up . From 1991 to 1994 he was active for the Mannheim ERC and was able to increase his statistical values ​​again. In 129 games in Mannheim Poner scored 65 points scorer. In 1994 he ended his career.
