Jim Finney
James "Jim" Finney (born August 17, 1924 in Hereford , † April 1, 2008 ibid) was an English FIFA referee .
Life
His career as a referee began in 1959 in the English professional league. He directed the final game of the British FA Cup between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley and was used as linesman for one of the finals in the 1960 Exhibition Cup . In May 1963 he was referee for the international match between Scotland and Austria , which he broke off after 79 minutes. He had previously sent two Austrians off and cited concerns about the players' health as the reason for abandoning the game. The highlight of his career was his selection for the 1966 World Cup . He led the quarter-final game between Uruguay and Germany and put two Uruguayan players off the pitch.
In 1971 he was scheduled to head the European Cup final when a traffic accident abruptly ended his sports career. However, he remained connected to football and worked in administration for various clubs.
