James Conley "Jim" Justice (born April 27, 1951 in Raleigh County , West Virginia ) is an American businessman and politician of the Republican Party and since 2017 governor of West Virginia.

Life

His parents were James Conley Justice and Edna Ruth Perry Justice. Justice studied economics at Marshall University . After his father's death, he became president of Bluestone Industries and Bluestone Coal Corporation .

In 2009, he acquired the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulfur Springs , Greenbrier County .

Justice was a member of the Republican Party until 2015 , after which he switched to the Democratic Party as a member. As the successor to Earl Ray Tomblin , he won the gubernatorial election in West Virginia against the Republican opponent Bill Cole on November 8, 2016. He took up his new office on January 16, 2017. On August 3, 2017, he switched back to the Republican Party.

Justice is married with two children and lives in Lewisburg .
