Robert Scheffer (born May 6, 1859 in Vienna ; † October 27, 1934 there ) was an Austrian landscape , genre and portrait painter , founder of the Scheffer painting school and art collector .

Life

Scheffer studied from 1879 to 1881 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl , Carl Wurzinger and Leopold Carl Müller and continued his studies from 1886 at the master school at the Grand Ducal Badische Kunstschule Karlsruhe with Ferdinand Keller .

From 1905 to 1918 Scheffer exhibited his works in the Vienna Künstlerhaus . His most popular subject was the subject of young women in Biedermeier interiors , which comes in numerous variations.

Scheffer was a board member and honorary member of the Albrecht Dürer Association, was awarded the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria (1929) and the Silver Medal of the Albrecht Dürer Association (1930).

Scheffer founded a painting school in 1891 with August Schubert in drawing and Carl Haunold in painting lessons. The students included John Quincy Adams , Robin Christian Andersen , Franz Eisner , Anton Faistauer , Maria Grengg , Josef Kalous, Anton Peschka , Franz Roubal , Gustav Schutt and Fritz Zerritsch . Scheffer's daughter Gret Kalous continued the Scheffer painting school until 1949 as the "School for Artistic Fashion Drawing" at the original location.
