Carl Franz Emanuel Haunold (also Karl, born March 29, 1832 in Vienna ; † July 7, 1911 there ) was an Austrian painter and librettist.

Haunold studied, interrupted by the revolutionary year 1848, from 1846 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in St. Annahof under Franz Steinfeld and Johann Ender , in 1854 he became a pupil of Anton Hansch . In the painting school founded by Robert Scheffer in 1891 , Haunold gave lessons in painting.

From the beginning Haunold specialized in landscape painting. In 1856 he exhibited for the first time in the artists' association with a picture “Partie bei Heiligenblut in Kärnthen”. In 1861 Haunold was one of the co-founders of the newly constituting “Society of Austrian Artists”, but resigned there in 1879 after one of his paintings had been rejected. Haunold was represented in the Austrian section of the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873 with two paintings (Petersberg ruins in Carinthia, Lavant ruins in Carinthia).

Haunold's most important field of work was the Austrian and Bavarian alpine landscapes, which he presented in numerous, mostly small-format pictures. He also went on study trips to Italy, Hungary and Germany. The atmospheric rendering of sunlight is characteristic of the presentation in his pictures.

Outside of the field of painting, Haunold distinguished himself through humorous contributions and singing games for the annual fools evenings of the Vienna Men's Choir Association and wrote a. a. the texts for the operetta Das Rosengärtlein von Aggstein and the Singspiel König Winter .
