Franz Roubal

Franz Roubal (born July 25, 1889 in Vienna , † February 9, 1967 in Irdning ) was an Austrian landscape and animal painter and sculptor .

life and work

Roubal studied from 1906 to 1914 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl and at the master school under Rudolf Bacher . In 1913 he received the special school award for a large animal painting; 1914 was with him on behalf of Baron Max Guttmann a historical mural for the meeting room of the Town Hall in Rottenmann ordered that the hunting trip of Emperor Maximilian I is. For the execution of this work Roubal received the Rome price .

As a sculptor, Roubal mainly created animal sculptures , mainly reconstructions of prehistoric animals. He also provided numerous illustrations for zoological works.

At the autumn exhibition of 1932 in the Vienna Künstlerhaus, he exhibited the oil painting Motif from Upper Styria and Gimpel in Snow . Franz Roubal was also a member of the Styrian Artists' Cooperative .
