Jim Murray (born November 13, 1957 in Merstham , Surrey ) is a British journalist , expert on whiskey and specialist book author. His work Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible evaluates around 4000 whiskeys and appears annually.

Life

As a teenager, he had his own TV show Murray on Monday and wrote a book on sports journalism Millwall: Lions of the South . He was a journalist for The Daily Star and The Sunday People before writing books on whiskey professionally. He was a member of the jury and board member of the International Wine and Spirit Competition . He lives in Frankfort, Kentucky .

He was the first distillery to visit Talisker in 1975 . Since then he has visited almost every distillery in the world. In 1994 he published his first book, Jim Murray's Irish Whiskey Almanac . This book was reprinted in 1997 under the title Classic Irish Whiskey .

The Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible is a permanent project. A new edition appears every year with new distilleries and whiskeys. The maximum possible number of points is 100 points. The aroma ( smell ), taste , finish and balance are evaluated . Tasting notes are also stored.

He also created the Whiskey Tasting Guidelines , which explain how a whiskey can be tasted in the best possible way.
