Jim Richardson (photographer)

Jim Richardson (born December 5, 1947 in the USA ) is an American photographer and writer .

Life

Richardson grew up in the north of the US state of Kansas on his parents' wheat and dairy farm north of Bellville in Republic County . There he began to experiment with his father's used camera and captured life on his parents' farm. After graduating from high school, he began studying psychology at Kansas State University .

Richardson dropped out of his studies in 1971 to do a traineeship at the Topeka Capital Journal . In the following 15 years he worked alongside his jobs for various newspapers as a photographer, among others for magazines such as LIFE and Time . In 1986 he left The Denver Post and started working as a freelance photographer. Since 1985 he has photographed and written three dozen photo reports, mostly in color, for National Geographic Magazine and has also published several photo books.

Richardson lived and worked in Denver , Colorado until 1997 and since then, in addition to his work as a photographer in Lindsborg , Kansas, he and his wife have run a small gallery for art and gift ideas on the town's main street.
