Jim Staley

James "Jim" Staley (* 1950 ) is an American trombonist who ranges between experimental and classical music, as well as a music producer .

Live and act

Staley grew up in Illinois and did his military service in an army band in Berlin before he graduated from the University of Illinois with a master's degree in the late 1970s . In 1978 he co-founded the New York venue Roulette , which has been located in a former theater in Brooklyn since 2010 . In the context of the events he is also active as a music producer. Staley works as a soloist and has played with Fred Frith , Tom Cora , David Weinstein , Takehisa Kosugi , Ikue Mori , Robin Holcomb and with John Zorn , on whose productions Cobra , The Big Gundown and Spillane he was involved. He also plays with Morgan Powell in the classic ensemble Tone Road Ramblers .
