Jimmy Amadie

James V. "Jimmy" Amadie Jr. (born January 5, 1937 - December 10, 2013 in Bala Cynwyd , Pennsylvania ) was an American jazz pianist and music teacher who was active in the music scene in Philadelphia .

Amadie toured with Woody Herman and His Orchestra in the late 1950s , accompanied Mel Tormé and played a. a. with Coleman Hawkins and Red Rodney . Because of a tendinitis disease, he interrupted his career as a musician to teach from then on. He has given master classes at Berklee College of Music and Villanova University in Philadelphia; his students included John Di Martino and Kurt Rosenwinkel . In 1994 Amadie started recording again; he made a solo album, Always With Me , which he worked on for two years. Nine other productions followed, with guest musicians such as Joe Lovano , Benny Golson , Phil Woods , Lew Tabackin , Randy Brecker and Lee Konitz . In the rhythm section , Bill Goodwin and Steve Gilmore and Tony Marino played . In 2011, after a 44-year hiatus, Amadie appeared again in public in the Grand Hall of the Philadelphia Museum of Art . He died in December 2013 at the age of 76 from complications from lung cancer.

The 2012 documentary Get Me a Fight is about Amadie's life.
