Jiroft (or Jiroft , Persian جیرفت) is a city in the Iranian province of Kerman . It is located 230 km south of the city of Kerman and 1375 km south of Tehran . The population is 209,746. In earlier times the name Sabzewaran was also used . The fact that the surrounding area is very fertile has made it famous as Hend-e Kutschek (Little India).

Jiroft lies on a large plain, the Halil Rud , on the southern foothills of the Bariz mountain range and is surrounded by two rivers. The mean height of the city is 650 m above sea level.

The climate is very hot in summer and moderate in winter. Only in the higher regions of the Bariz Mountains does it get cold.

Jiroft has recently become better known among archaeologists when the Iranian cultural organization announced that they had discovered the remains of a millennia-old city or kingdom near Jiroft. A predecessor town of Dschiroft is being explored on an excavation site only one kilometer from today's center.
