Jive Bunny & the Mastermixers were an English music project that had great success with medleys from oldies and party hits in the late 1980s .
Band history
Jive Bunny originally emerged from a music studio in Rotherham , England. The Music Factory is a father-and-son company run by John and Andrew Pickles and offers a DJ mix service that remixes old and current hits for DJs. In 1988 they put together a party mix that consisted of short excerpts of well-known rock'n'roll hits, timed and connected to the recurring melody of Glenn Miller's In the Mood .
Originally only intended for DJs, the track soon became so popular that the Pickles decided to release it as a single. After it had taken them six months to get the music rights to the pieces used, they named themselves Jive Bunny & the Mastermixers (supposedly after a friend's nickname) and released the mix in the summer of 1989 under the title Swing the Mood . A cartoon rabbit (English bunny) was also the trademark of the accompanying music videos.
The single immediately topped the charts in numerous countries, was number 1 in England, Germany and Austria and number 11 in the USA.
Due to their great success, they immediately followed up with another oldie mix entitled That's What I Like and that same year brought out a Christmas carol medley called Let's Party . Both singles also reached number 1 in Great Britain and thus Jive Bunny managed the rare achievement within a year with the first three singles to top the UK charts.
As a result, the English tried to keep the interest awake by not only mixing rock oldies, but also z. B. to Swing , Salsa or Cancan tried. Nevertheless, the idea quickly faded and by the end of 1991 they disappeared from the charts again. With ten singles and three albums, however, they were able to sell over 22 million records worldwide during that time.
From time to time John and Andrew Pickles still appear as Jive Bunny, but essentially they are limited to their recording and remixing studio in Rotherham.
