Jizzax or Dschissach ( Uzbek - Cyrillic Жиззах, Russian Джизак Dschisak ) is a city in Uzbekistan and the capital of the province Jizzax .
geography
Geographical location
The city is located on the edge of the Golodnaya steppe and near the strategically important Jilanuti pass , which allows access to the Serafshantal .
population
The city had 148,850 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2009).
history
Jizzax used to be a junction of the Silk Road on the Samarkand - Ferghanatal route .
In 1916, Jizzax was the center of an anti-Russian movement that was quickly crushed.
education
There are two universities in Jizzax.
Culture
In the city is the Istiklol Amusement Park. At the end of June 2019, a ride broke apart while in operation , at least one person died.

The train station of Jizzax is located on the Trans Caspian railway .
