João Domingos Silva Pinto (born November 21, 1961 in Vila Nova de Gaia ) is a former Portuguese football player .

life and career

Pinto started and ended his career with the same club. He started in 1981 and ended his career in 1997. During this time he won nine Portuguese league titles , four Portuguese cup titles and nine Portuguese Supercups with FC Porto . In 1987 he won the World Cup against CA Peñarol and the European Cup in the same year . In the national championship final in 1987 he was the captain of the Porto team when they beat Bayern Munich 2-1. He was also able to win the European Supercup in 1987.

Internationally, he played 70 times for Portugal and scored one goal. He took part in the 1984 European Championship in France (four appearances), where Portugal was eliminated in the semifinals. At the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , Pinto also took part, Portugal was eliminated in the group stage.
