Hans-Joachim Kurt Böhm (born August 21, 1949 in Mindelheim ; † December 29, 2002 in Hanover ) was a German researcher in the field of molecular biology .

Live and act

Böhm studied at the University of Konstanz and received his doctorate there in 1980 on "Acetylation of nucleosomal histones in vitro by an endogenous acetyltransferase".

Since 1986 Böhm has been researching interferon gamma at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine in Hanover . There, in 1993, together with Otto Slodowski and Bernd Otto, he acquired a patent for “New, recombinant interferon gamma with increased biological activity”.

Böhm suffered from Bechterew's disease , which increasingly affected him. In 1993, his situation was made worse by a fall. He was then paralyzed, in need of constant help and finally had to stop his active research. In 2002 he died of the consequences of his illness in Hanover and was buried in Mindelheim.
