Joachim Braun (pastor)

Joachim Braun (born June 13, 1904 in Berlin ; † August 6, 2003 in Mössingen-Öschingen ) was a Protestant pastor .

Live and act

Joachim Braun was born on June 13, 1904 in Berlin . From 1923 he studied Protestant theology , first at the Bethel Church University , then at the Universities of Tübingen and Berlin . In 1930 he passed his first theological examination, the second examination followed in 1933. He held his first pastoral position in Mecklenburg for the villages of Federow, Kargow and Speck. From 1932 he was pastor in Berlin-Luisenstadt , from 1939 to 1945 he was also a military site pastor in Berlin. At the beginning of 1945 he was transferred to Tübingen as pastor . After the end of the Second World War he was a student pastor in Tübingen for a short time. In 1946 he began his work at the “Office for People's Mission” of the Württemberg regional church . He headed this institution, later known as the "Office for Missionary Services", from 1956 until he retired in 1971.

Joachim Braun became widely known through many missionary lectures, sermons and writings. For a long time he was a member of the regional synod of the Württemberg regional church and was part of the leadership group of the " Ludwig Hofacker Association ". In 1969 he was one of the co-founders of the “ Albrecht Bengel House ” in Tübingen, a study center for Protestant students. Braun died on August 6, 2003 at his last place of residence in Öschingen (City of Mössingen). He was buried in the Tübingen mountain cemetery.

One of his children is the church musician and composer Hans-Peter Braun .
