history

middle Ages

The first documentary mention of Öschingen was in 1101 as Escingen . The meaning of the word shows that it must have been the place of the relatives of an Esco or Asco , about which nothing is known. The oldest known landlord was the von Stöffeln family , who sold Öschingen in 1381 for £ 300 to Count Fritz the Elder von Zollern . In the course of the Zoller inheritance, Friedrich XII. (Hohenzollern) Öschingen 1402 and bequeathed it eleven years later together with Mössingen to his brother Fritzli , who shortly afterwards sold it to Eberhard the Mild von Württemberg .

After further contracts between Württemberg and Zollern, Öschingen finally became part of Württemberg in 1456. Around 1430, the Lords of First, who had lived in First Castle between Öschingen and Mössingen from the 11th century , had goods on site.

Thirty Years' War

The village suffered greatly from the Thirty Years' War . With the exception of an old chapel and three other buildings, the entire village burned down. Six years after the end of the war, just 223 residents lived in the village.

Incorporation to Mössingen

The basic rural structure that shaped Öschingen is still preserved today. When it was incorporated in Mössingen on December 1, 1971, there was already a new school with a gym, built in 1967. In the 1970s and later, new building areas were designated and allowed the place to grow. In the mid-1980s, the through-road (L 383) was expanded and several buildings were restored. A new town center was built in 1987 with a new fire station and building yard, followed five years later by the town administration, library, bank, shop and apartments. In the competition Our village has a future , Öschingen won bronze medals at state level in 1995, 1998 and 2000.

Landslide

Landslide from June 3, 2013

On June 3, 2013, after prolonged rainfall, a landslide occurred on the slope of the Dachslochberg. As a result, 15 houses had to be evacuated, some of which had become uninhabitable due to the formation of cracks. The landslide is visible from a distance as a white rock face.

Culture and sights

Former town hall, now a woodcut museum

In the former town hall of the village, the Öschinger Schultheißenhaus , a museum, the Klaus Herzer Woodcut Museum, has been set up since 2001 . Over 1500 wood and metal prints are shown here alternately. In addition, printing blocks, presses and other utensils made by a wood carver can be viewed. One of the presses exhibited here is owned by HAP Grieshaber .

Economy and Infrastructure

State road 383 runs through the village. The forest swimming pool in the village could only be saved from being closed in 2004 when the association Freibadfreunde Öschingen e. V. founded and took over the business.
