Joachim Decker
Joachim Decker (* around 1565 in Hamburg ; † March 15, 1611 in Hamburg) was a German composer and organist .
Life
Decker was born in Hamburg around 1565 as the son of Eberhard Decker, cantor at the Johanneum . It is believed that he attended this school and received music lessons from his father. In 1596 he became organist at the Nikolaikirche and held this post until his death in 1611. In 1604 Decker published the Melodeyen hymnbook together with his colleagues from the other three main churches , Hieronymus Praetorius , his son Jacob Praetorius and David Scheidemann . The song book includes 88 four-part sets of hymns , of which 29 come from Decker. They are mostly kept simple and lead the main voice in treble .
family
Decker was married to Christina Ossenbrügge († 1630). Her father Johannes was a pastor in Eppendorf and later a pastor ( deacon ) at the Nikolaikirche in Hamburg. His son Johannes Decker (1598–1668) was the organist at Hamburg Cathedral .
