Joachim Korn (born July 4, 1919 in Reichenbach an der Fils ; † September 8, 1994 in Denkendorf near Esslingen), son of the doctor Dr. med. Rudolf Korn (1884–1945) was a German communications engineer and radio and television pioneer.

Life

Joachim Korn graduated in 1940 with the Abitur at the Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich and completed training as an aviator engineer (air force / radio) from 1941 to 1943. Between 1942 and 1946 he studied communications engineering at the TH Stuttgart .

From 1946 to 1953 he was the owner and co-owner of various companies for electroacoustics , radio equipment and radio technology. From December 1954 Korn was a graduate engineer at Philips in Hamburg (head office, newly founded television division). There he was significantly involved in the introduction and spread of television in Germany as well as in the introduction and spread of color television (from 1967, PAL system , according to Prof. Walter Bruch ). Joachim Korn gave over 350 specialist lectures to specialist dealers and specialist journalists throughout Germany and made a name for himself in specialist circles, including across borders.

He was also responsible for publications relating to television sets, e.g. B. Operating instructions in understandable form, technical data sheets, service manuals, etc.

Joachim Korn had the so-called "Big Funk License" with the callsign "DL 3 XY" (Delta Lima 3 X-Ray Yankee) and was an honorary member of the DARC (German Amateur Radio Club, Baunatal). He was also the initiator and head of the amateur radio group of the Philips group in Hamburg, which had its own radio station with the callsign DK0PH.

Joachim Korn was married to Maria (née Harsch, * 1920, deceased 2006) since 1942. This marriage resulted in three children: Ulrich (* 1943, dec. 2018), Margrit (* 1945) and Eberhard (* 1953).
