Live and act
The family background and the school education of Joachim Lorenz Evers are only insufficiently documented. Presumably he initially worked full-time as a "gold and silver worker" for a long time and only later turned to other activities on a larger scale. From the French Revolution he wrote political works: from 1793 to 1795 he wrote the history of the French state revolution in three volumes, from 1795 to 1800 he edited the Journal of the Latest World Events . The paper was considered to be one of the most radical writings in German-speaking countries with a democratic attitude that, according to the Allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung of 1799, surpassed comparable French papers. Together with Heinrich Gottlieb Schmieder , Evers ran the Altona publishing company around 1800 .
From 1800 to 1802 Evers was director of the Hamburg company , for which he also wrote pieces. He invested a large part of his fortune for the National Theater, but was unsuccessful. Evers was considered an active Freemason, who entered the Lodge Ferdinand zum Felsen in 1790 and co-founded the Lodge Carl zum Felsen in Altona in 1796 .
