Joachim Wenzel (judge)

Joachim Wenzel (born June 23, 1940 in Stettin ; † August 29, 2009 ) was Vice President of the German Federal Court of Justice from 2002 to 2005 .

After completing his legal training in 1969, Wenzel initially settled as a lawyer in Offenbach am Main . In 1971 he joined the judicial service of the State of Hesse , where he initially worked as a judge at the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court and the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court . From 1986 to 1988 he was employed in the Hessian Ministry of Justice, most recently in the rank of Head Ministerial Councilor.

In 1988 he was elected judge at the Federal Court of Justice. The presidium of the court assigned him to the Fifth Civil Senate and the Senate for Agricultural Matters, to which he was to belong throughout his entire membership in the Federal Court of Justice. In 1999 he was appointed presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice and presided over both senates. Since 2002 he has also held the office of Vice President of the court as the successor to Burkhard Jähnke . Upon reaching the age limit, Wenzel retired on June 30, 2005. He died on August 29, 2009.

Wenzel was married and had two children, including the literary scholar Mirjam Wenzel .
