Joachim Westermann

Joachim Westermann (born March 26, 1948 in Hemer ; † August 15, 2018 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and State Secretary in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life and work

After attending grammar school in 1967 and completing his military service in the Bundeswehr until 1969, Westermann trained as a galvanizer . He then studied economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum , graduating with a degree in economics in 1976. From 1976 to 1978 he was an executive assistant and from 1978 an authorized signatory .

From 1990 to 2016 Westermann was President of the Volksmusikerbund NRW . He lived in Arnsberg - Rumbeck .

politics

Westermann joined the SPD as a member in 1970. From 1985 to 1987 he was deputy, from 1987 to 1997 chairman and from 1997 he was honorary chairman in the SPD sub-district Hochsauerland.

From May 29, 1980 to May 30, 1990 Westermann was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. He moved up in the 9th electoral term on his party's reserve list, in the 10th electoral term he was directly elected in constituency 142 Hochsauerlandkreis I. From 1975 to 1990 he was a member of the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis .

From 1990 to September 1993 Westermann was State Secretary at the Ministry of Building and Housing of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, from October 1993 to September 1995 State Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and from September 1995 to March 1999 State Secretary to the Minister of Economics and medium-sized companies, technology and transport in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
