Salvat-Papasseit's work spans a period of less than ten years and, after the initial socialist manifestations in 1916, shows a mixture of avant-garde and traditional influences, especially in his poetry. In 1920 he published the First Manifesto of the Catalan Futurists . He founded and was co-founder of three short-lived literary magazines. In 1924 he died of tuberculosis . His grave is in the Cementiri de Montjuïc cemetery in Barcelona.

His poems have only become known to a wide audience in the last few decades through quotes and musical arrangements by Catalan songwriters from Spain and France. In the Moll de la Fusta harbor basin in Barcelona, where Salvat-Papasseit worked as a night watchman for some time, there is a statue of the poet created by the Luxembourg sculptor Rob Krier , on the base of which there is a plaque bearing his poem Nocturn per a acordió .
