Jean-Baptiste Drevet , called Joannès Drevet (born May 25, 1854 in Lyon ; † June 12, 1940 ibid) was a French painter and engraver .

biography

Joannès Drevet comes from a family of artists in Lyon. The son and nephew of his ancestor Pierre Drevet (1664–1738) were already engravers. Joannès Drevet is the father of the engraver Joanny Drevet (1889–1969).

Joannès Drevet made his first etching in 1879. As a beneficiary of birth, he was able to devote himself entirely to his artistic work. From 1880 to 1890 he exhibited landscapes and sea paintings in oil, drawings and etchings in Lyon before he devoted himself to engraving .

In the summer Joannès Drevet lived in his house in Chindrieux , where he created numerous watercolors. His paintings equally show the landscapes of the Lyonnais , the Dauphiné and the Alps . His etchings mainly depict the view of Lyon (the city in which his studio is located on Sainte-Colombe-Strasse (now Joannès-Drevet-Strasse)) and the surrounding area.

Joannès Drevet died in a house on Quai de Bondy, where he has lived since 1892.
