Jochanan ben Beroka
R. Jochanan ben Beroka (also: Jochanan ben Beroqa , i.e. from Bene Brak ; the translation Jochanan, son of Beroka , which can sometimes be read , is wrong) was an ancient Jewish scholar who lived and worked in the second century AD and is known as the second Generation of the Tannaites counted.
He was a student of Yehoshua ben Chananja , friend of Rabbi Eleazar Chisma and father of Rabbi Ishmael.
He dealt mainly with family law and here in particular inheritance law.
His son, Ismael ben Jochanan ben Beroka, who is often quoted in the Baraita , deepened and expanded his father's halachot .
