Christian Friedrich Ruppe

Christian Friedrich Ruppe (born August 22, 1753 in Salzungen , † May 25, 1826 in Leiden, the Netherlands ) was a Dutch musician and composer of German origin.

Life

His father Ernst Salomon Ruppe had earned his living as a hatter. In addition, he had made organs in Langenfeld and Utrechtsrode and appeared as an organist. His mother's name was Elisabeth Christina Walch. He is also the brother of Meiniger Ducal Council, Chamber Secretary and musician Friedrich Christian Ruppe (born February 18, 1771 in Salzungen, † August 4, 1834 in Meiningen). He lived with short interruptions in Leiden, where he was on 20 June 1787 as a student of philology at the University enrolled .

He worked as an organist at the Lutheran Church there and, from October 18, 1790, as Kapellmeister , music director , choir director and music teacher at the university. From 1796 he was involved in founding an orphanage choir. In 1808 he was given the task of giving instructions on the theory of music at the university and on May 13, 1816, at the instigation of King Wilhelm I, Ruppe was appointed lecturer for music. Under rheumatism and an eye disease suffering he died in 1826. His grave is in Katwijk .

His compositional work includes cantatas , songs , chamber music and piano pieces , as well as a two-volume music-theoretical treatise on modern music ( “Theory of the hedendaagsche muzijk” . 1808/1809).
