Jochen Vogel (born May 31, 1964 in Schüttorf ) is a German harpist who has specialized in the Celtic harp # Cláirseach / Clàrsach , the Irish metal string harp .

Life

After gaining musical experience on various instruments in his childhood and youth, Jochen Vogel built his first Cláirseach in 1984 in a building course of the German Youth Hostel Association under the guidance of the harpist Rüdiger Oppermann .

While studying biology in Göttingen (1985-1991) he traveled several times to Ireland and Scotland and attended workshops with various teachers: Ann Heymann (Cláirseach), Janet Harbison ( Irish Harp ), Mary Macmaster from The Poozies (Clàrsach) and Deborah Henson -Conant ( Jazz ), with which he also made a few appearances in Boston in 1989 . In 1986 Jochen Vogel teamed up with the guitarist Leander Reininghaus , with whom he undertook his first improvisational and world music experiments, which were intensified in the band Moka Efti after 1989. In 1993 he also founded the improvising harp trio Trio Modal together with Ralf Kleemann and Stefan Battige. Jochen Vogel always works with well-known musicians. In the past this was u. a. Charlie Mariano (1997), Thijs van Leer (2002), Fischer-Z (2002), John Kelly and Maite Itoiz (2006), Eda Zari, Claire Hamill (2008), the Italian harpists Enrico Euron and Vincenzo Zitello (2007-2008 ), Corrina Hewat and her project "Harp Heaven" (2008) as well as Tato Gomez, who produced two of his solo CDs and recorded the Feng Shui CD with him in 2002 .

Jochen Vogel moderated the "International Harp Festival 2005", an offshoot of the "Harp Meeting" that has been taking place in North Hesse since 1981. Since 1997, Jochen Vogel has mainly been active as a soloist . He lives in Cologne, is married and has two children.

  • 1991: Moka Efti is the state winner of North Rhine-Westphalia at the national rock competition

  • 1995: Trio Modal wins 3rd place at the German Folk Promotion Prize at the Tanz & FolkFest in Rudolstadt, Thuringia
  • 1997: 2nd prize for composition at the Dutch Harp Festival in Vlissingen , Netherlands
