Jock Clear

Jock Clear (born September 12, 1963 in Portsmouth , Hampshire ) is a British motorsport engineer .

Career

Clear studied at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh until 1987 , where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering .

His career in motorsport began as a designer at Lola in 1988 , before moving to Formula 1 at Benetton in 1989 , where he was appointed chief designer. In 1992 Clear also worked as chief designer at Leyton House and moved to Lotus the following year , where he became a racing engineer for Johnny Herbert in 1994 .

After the demise of Lotus, he moved to Williams in 1995 and became a racing engineer for David Coulthard , who celebrated a Grand Prix victory that season and was third in the World Championship. When Jacques Villeneuve joined the team in 1996 , Clear became the team's race engineer. Under Clear's direction, Villeneuve became driver world champion in 1997 , Williams won the constructors' championship.

In 1999, Clear moved to BAR together with Villeneuve , where he continued to look after the Canadian until 2003. During the season Villeneuve left the team and Clear was by the end of 2005 race engineer for Takuma Sato , who replaced Villeneuve in the team. From 2006 to 2009 Clear was in charge of the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello in the team, which has since been renamed Honda Racing F1 and later Brawn GP , who finished third in 2009. In 2010 , he worked as chief race engineer on Nico Rosberg's car at Mercedes , the successor to Brawn GP.

In December 2014 it was announced that Clear was moving to Scuderia Ferrari and will replace Pat Fry as chief engineer.
