Jody Miller
Jody Miller , born as Myrna Joy Miller (born November 29, 1941 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American country singer who celebrated her greatest success in the 1960s. Their music is counted towards the Nashville Sound .
Musical career
Miller grew up in a musical family in Blanchard, Oklahoma, USA . During her school days, she led a vocal trio that performed country songs in college bars. After graduating from high school, she went to California to pursue her singing career, but a serious traffic accident forced her to return home. From there she made a fresh attempt to get into the music business, and she managed to make herself known nationwide as a country singer through an appearance on the Tom Paxton television show .
Through the agency of actor Dale Robertson , Miller received a recording contract with the Los Angeles- based record company Capitol Records in 1963 . This brought out the first single with her under the name "Jody Miller" in the fall of 1963 , which contained the title He Walks Like a Man on one side . She immediately got into the Hot 100 of the US music magazine Billboard , where she rose to 66th place. With her charm and her good figure, Capitol made her a “pop music princess”. With her seventh single and the title Queen of the House , she achieved the greatest record success of her career in early 1965; the song was an answer to Roger Miller's King of the Road . It was listed by Billboard on both the Hot 100 and the country charts, where it was ranked twelve and five as the best. She also received a Grammy for Best Female Country Presentation for the song . Her image of the “little girl with the big voice” was made public with numerous appearances in US-wide TV shows and tours across the USA. In 1969 Miller left Capitol to take a baby break. For Capitol she had recorded about 22 singles and five long-playing records. In the summer of 1970, their first single was released by the New York record company Epic Records , whose A-side immediately hit the country charts with Look at Mine (21st). While Miller was also able to place himself in the Hot 100 in previous years, Epic Miller primarily focused on country songs, so that from now on she was only listed in the country charts, but 24 times. A total of 26 singles and eight long-playing records with Jody Miller were released by Epic by 1979, and in 1973 Capitol brought out a sixth Miller long-playing record.
Both Capitol and Epic sold Jody Miller records in the UK, France and Germany, among others. Six singles came onto the market in Germany, including two with German-language titles. The 1965 song Jetzt geht'n Our Stars auf was able to place itself in the top 40 of the music magazine Musikmarkt in 33rd place.
In the early 1980s, Miller retired from the music business and began breeding horses on a 1,000 acre ranch. She returned to the music scene in 1987 with her 1987 album My Country . The patriotic lyrics contained in the album helped her in 1988 to an invitation to the introductory ball of President Bush Sr. In the 1990s, Miller released a number of gospel albums that earned her induction into the Hall of Fame of the International Country Gospel Music Association. The Country Gospel Music Guild named Miller Entertainer of the Year in 1999.
