Joe's Beerhouse is a popular restaurant in Windhoek , the capital of Namibia . It is mentioned in most travel guides to Namibia, including the publishers Iwanowski , Lonely Planet , DuMont and Marco Polo .

The restaurant has been offering home-style cuisine in a rustic atmosphere since 1990 with a focus on Namibian game meat such as zebra , kudu , oryx , crocodile , eland and springbok .

There are three different thatched roof bars, a wine cellar and a souvenir shop on the site.

history

Joe's Beerhouse was founded in 1990 by the German head chef Joachim "Joe" Gross. Gross moved to South West Africa , now Namibia, in 1986 to run the Kaiserkrone restaurant there with a business partner . However, when the business partner decided to return to Germany after three years , this restaurant had to be sold. Gross now wanted a rather small and cozy restaurant and then founded Joe's Beerhouse in Grimmstrasse on the northern edge of Windhoek-Central .

After just two years, it became necessary to move to a larger area. In 1992 Joe's Beerhouse moved to Independence Avenue . Almost 10 years later, the company moved again to Nelson Mandela Avenue in the Eros district , the current location in July 2019.

In 2007 Joachim and Antette Gross sold to an investment company. Joe's has been run by new tenants since June 2012.
