Joe Blasco

Joe Blasco (born April 30, 1947 in Greensburg , Pennsylvania ) is an American makeup artist . He worked in Hollywood for 35 years and accompanied large film productions there. He also started his own cosmetics company, the Joe Blasco School .

In the 1970s and 1980s, Blasco worked for shows on major American television networks, including The Red Skelton Show , Jim Nabors Show , Barney Miller , The Dating Game , The Newlywed Game , General Hospital , Good Morning America and The Carol Burnett Show . Hollywood was the personal makeup artist for the likes of Orson Welles , Olivia Newton-John , Marlene Dietrich , Lauren Bacall and Bette Midler .

While he was earning his money at the big television and film studios, he was always looking for other challenges. He created the often impressive make-up for horror and other films, including Garden of Eden , Albert Einstein - The Man Behind the Genius , Leonardo da Vinci Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS , Werewolf of Woodstock , Track of the Moon Beast and David Cronenberg's Shivers . He invented the bladder technique , which is used in horror films to depict moving, bulging bubbles and rashes on the skin.

In 1976 he opened the Joe Blasco Make-up Training Center in Hollywood. The school was so successful that he opened a second in Orlando , Florida in 1991 . Since 1983 he has been manufacturing his own cosmetic products, which are sold worldwide. Here, too, special attention is paid to cosmetics for special effects on the stage.

In 2004, Blasco received the "Distinguished Achievement Award" in the make-up category of the United States Institute for Theater Technology (USITT).
