Joseph "Joe" Hewitt (born May 3, 1881 in Chester , † March 12, 1971 in Liverpool ) was an active English football player in the early 20th century . He was a striker and played for Liverpool for most of his career .

Life

Born in Chester in 1881, Joe Hewitt began his career at Sunderland AFC . In January 1904 he moved to Liverpool FC. Although he quickly established himself in the club's first team after his debut on February 13, 1904, he could not prevent the Reds' relegation to the Second Division at the end of the 1903/04 season .

In the following season, Liverpool succeeded in direct promotion to the First Division, with Hewitt only playing nine games. In the following 1905/06 season, however, he became an important player in the team when he scored 24 goals in his 36 games and was the top scorer of his team, which won the championship as a promoted team.

Hewitt played four more games at the beginning of the 1909/10 season for Liverpool, where he scored a total of 74 goals in 164 games. He then played a season with Bolton Wanderers and ended his professional career.

After the end of his career as an active player, Hewitt continued to work at Liverpool FC. He died in 1971 at the age of 89.
