Joseph Little Twig (Johnson) (* 12. May 1897 in Hogansburg , New York ; † 3. March 1939 in Canton , Ohio ) was an American American football poker players and policeman . He played on the offensive line and on the defensive line in the National Football League (NFL), including with the Oorang Indians .

Player career

A native of Mohawk - Indians Joe Little Twig already played at the high school American football and continued his career in college. From 1917 to 1921 he served in the United States Army and after his discharge from the military joined the Oorang Indians trained by Jim Thorpe , who played in the NFL. After the Indians had to stop playing after the 1923 season, their teammate Joe Guyon joined the Rock Island Independents in addition to Twig and Thorpe . After his first year playing with the Independents, he was elected All-Pro . In 1926, Twig initially ran for the Akron Indians before ending his career with the Canton Bulldogs .

After the playing career

Joe Twig served immediately after his playing career as a patrol officer with the Canton police force . In 1931 he resigned from the service. Twig was married twice and had two children. On February 28, 1939, he was involved in a traffic accident with his car. In this accident he suffered serious injuries, from which he finally died on March 3, 1939. He is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton.
