description

The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which is on the tip and which are twisted / mirrored against each other. At the top, the two halves of the sail made of rusting steel are welded together. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view (see photo).

The memorial, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home parish, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture is 13 meters high and has a total weight of approx. 30 tons.
