Joe Rappold

Josef "Joe" Rappold (born November 16, 1966 in Baden near Vienna ; † July 8, 2015 in Vienna ) was an Austrian journalist , radio presenter and editor .

family

Joe Rappold grew up on a farm without a father, in the household of his grandparents, in the Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn community . His mother and younger brother are both deaf. He was not married and left behind a son (* 1989) and a granddaughter (* 2015).

education

Joe Rappold first attended elementary school in his home town of Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn and later the secondary school in Hirtenberg. After completing a polytechnical course, he completed an apprenticeship as a plumber and central heating engineer, which he completed with excellent success.

Professional background

After a brief activity as a prop master and stage technician at the Theater in der Josefstadt, he pursued a career as a sales clerk at the plumbing wholesaler Bruckner & Nowak.

His first professional contact with the medium of radio was when he hosted for the summer radio station Radio Lignano .

Hitradio Ö3

In 1993 he started his career at ORF as an intern . In the first few years he was mainly employed as an editor, but after a short time you noticed his linguistic talent and his extraordinary voice.

In 1997 and 1998 he presented the Ö3 Wecker as "Pepi" together with Harry Raithofer . Due to his unmistakable emphasis on the saying "Morning!" (Colloquially for good morning) and the funny depiction of the character "Pepi" in some self-developed sketches, he quickly achieved national popularity and a high level of awareness.

After his successful time at Ö3 Wecker, he got his own talk radio broadcast , which he also designed. “Joe's Nightclub - Where everything is allowed and nothing is forbidden” could be heard from Saturday to Sunday between midnight and 2:00 am and helped Rappold to successfully change his image from morning comedian to serious program developer and presenter. In this talk radio format, the focus was on the listeners and their stories and opinions on spicy topics.

In the same period he also developed and moderated the broadcast formats “Solid Gold” and “Love and so on”.

Further engagements

After the end of the cooperation with Hitradio Ö3, the Social Democratic Party of Austria engaged him in autumn 2002 as moderator of the election campaign appearances of the later Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer on his "Alfred Gusenbauer - from man to man tour" as part of the National Council election campaign of the SPÖ.

This was followed by a two-year excursion into the world of television, after he returned to the medium of radio and was under contract from 2005 to 2006 as editor and head of the service at the private broadcaster Radio 88.6 .

The SPÖ once again relied on Rappold, who once again played the shows of the Austria-wide “Tour de Chance” for Dr. Alfred Gusenbauer moderated and thus supported him in winning the 2006 National Council election.

Radio Vienna

Since 2007 Joe Rappold has worked as an editor, head of duty, producer and presenter at Radio Wien . During this time he developed numerous special programs and also supported the Ö1 Help editorial team. In 2012 he fulfilled another dream and became a columnist for the Badener Zeitung.

On July 8, 2015, Rappold died at the age of 48 in Vienna after a long, serious illness.
