Joseph "Joe" Willis (born August 10, 1988 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American football player who is mostly used as a goalkeeper . He is currently under contract with Houston Dynamo .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Willis played on his high school football team, Chaminade College Preparatory School, early on. While at the University of Denver , he played for the Denver Pioneers, his university's team. After showing good performance there, he also played in the Premier Development League for the Real Colorado Foxes from 2009 to 2010 .

Club career

Willis was chosen as the 14th pick in the third round (50th overall) in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by DC United on January 14, 2011 . On March 16, 2011 he signed a professional contract with DC United, but where he could not establish himself as a goalkeeper. He made his professional debut in the MLS on August 13, 2011 at RFK Stadium in a 4-0 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps . in which he was immediately named Man of the Match. In 2014 Willis was loaned to the Richmond Kickers in the United Soccer League .

On December 8, it was announced that Willis and Samuel Inkoom had been transferred to Houston Dynamo in exchange for Andrew Driver and a four-round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft . Unlike Inkoom, Willis signed the contract with Houston on December 19th.
