Joël Kotek

Joël Kotek (born May 15, 1958 in Ghent ) is a Belgian political scientist and historian . He is currently a lecturer in modern history at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), head of training at the Center for Contemporary Jewish Documentation (Center d'Etudes Juives Contemporaines) in Paris and General Secretary of the Center Européen d'Etudes sur la Shoah de l 'Antisémitisme et du Génocide (CESSAG) in Brussels .

Life

Kotek studied history at the Free University of Brussels and Oxford University . He received his PhD in Political Science from the Institute for Political Studies in Paris ( Institut d'études politiques de Paris ) in 1993 . He is the author of several contemporary history books. International attention was in particular his work "A Century of stock," the stock of the storage systems from Burenaufstand about the extermination camps of the Nazis and the Soviet gulags to the Chinese Laogai draws. The book was awarded the Grand Prix d'histoire Chateaubriand in 2000 and has been translated into several languages. His media-analytical book "Au nom de l'antisionisme" ("Cartoons and Extremism") has also received international reviews.

Kotek is a member of the international advisory body of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations .
