Jofre Ibáñez II. De Sasiola (* 1456 ; † 1525 ) was Alcalde and from 1485 to 1489 the ambassador of the Catholic royal couple to Henry VII of England .

Life

His parents were María Ruiz de Irarrazábal and Jofre Ibañez de Sasiola. A brother of his father, Lope Ibánez de Sasiola, founded the house of Sasiola on January 26, 1418. His sister was Gracia Ibánez de Sasiola. Jofre settled in Deba on the Deba River in 1456 and married María Ibáñez de Ojanguren. Her firstborn son was Martín Ochoa de Sasiola.

Jofre de Ibáñez Sasiola was Alcalde of the municipality of Deba.

Sasiola was a friend of King Edward IV of England and was appointed ambassador to the Castilian court in England in 1477. On the personal initiative of Sasiola, the corsair wars between Basque and English sea traders were settled by contracts, some of which were signed in Deba.

In 1481 Sasiola lived in Zumaia and formulated an arbitration award in the case of Fernando Iceta with the Bachiller Pero Diez de Mihurubia from Valladolid. The municipality Zumaia had complained against the fact that Iceta permanent the Office of the Provost perceived. The arbitration ruling stipulated that Iceta would give all documents it had come into possession of in connection with the performance of his duties to the municipality and that the municipality would decide on the appointment of the provost for five years.

Jofre de Sasiola was a trader from the Basque Country who was appointed as a judge in arbitration proceedings in disputes between England and Castile.

Jofre Ybayñez de Sasiola was a member of the Consejo Real , which emerged from the Council of the Order of Santiago in the course of the Reconquista and was the governing body of Ferdinand II . Jofre Ybayñez de Sasiola was one of the ambassadors of the Catholic royal couple who negotiated the state treaty with Henry VIII of England .
