Johan Claesson (born August 12, 1981 ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who played almost a hundred games in the Allsvenskan for Gefle IF , played in his career in Sweden and for the Portland Timbers in the USL First Division .
Career
Claesson first played in his youth at Hagby IK . From there the midfielder went to the youth department of IK Sirius . He later made his debut for the club in the men's division in the third division Division 1 .
In 2005 Claesson moved to Allsvenskan at Gefle IF . At the club that had made the promotion out of the Superettan , he was initially used mainly as a substitute, but in the course of his debut season in Sweden's elite series, he fought for a regular place. In 23 season appearances he contributed in the 2005 season to reaching the 11th place in the table, the first non-relegation place. As a regular player in the following seasons, he helped the team to establish itself in the lower midfield of the league.
After four years in the first Swedish league and completing his law studies, Claesson decided to leave the club at the end of the 2008 season and moved to the United States to Portland Timbers. At his new club, which was able to sign him for free after his contract in Sweden expired, he signed a one-year contract with an option for another season. In his first year he scored one goal in 25 games this season. Ultimately, he stayed in the US until the end of 2010, then returned to his hometown club IK Sirius, who play in the third division. If he had missed the relegation place to Superettan in his first season with the team due to the worse goal difference compared to the same point FC Väsby United , the club was missing one point at the end of 2012 on the table runner-up BK Forward . Nevertheless, he extended his expiring contract in December, with coach Kim Bergstrand describing him as a competent football player.
