Johan Grimonprez (* 1962 in Roeselare , West Flanders ) is a Belgian filmmaker , installation artist and curator who lives in Ghent and New York City .

life and work

Johan Grimonprez studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Ghent until 1986 . As a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in 1992 . Johan Grimonprez was accepted into the Whitney Museum 's Independent Study Program in 1993 as a fellow .

Grimonprez works mainly in the field of video and installations . Its main topic is media manipulation .

In 1987 he received a research grant from the Ministry of the Flemish Community. In 1997 Grimonprez was a participant in the DAAD's Berlin artist program .

Films (selection)

1992 Kobarweng or Where is your helicopter? is about the first encounter between a remote village in the New Guinea highlands and the rest of the world.
1997 Dial HISTORY is an essay film , the stories of several hijackings in the mainstream - TV has been retold and at the documenta X shown.
2004 Looking for Alfred. Homage to Alfred Hitchcock , doppelganger and cameo appearances .
2009 Double Take combines documentary and fictional elements.
2011 Shadow World - Inside the Global Arms Trade is a documentary about the international arms trade .
