Johan Paulinus Lillienstedt (also: Johann von Lilienstedt; born June 14, 1655 as Johann Paulinus in Björneborg ; † September 26, 1732 in Divitz ) was a Swedish count, statesman and poet.

Life

Lillienstedt was born in 1655 as Johann Paulinus. He was the son of Paul Simonis Raumannus, a vicar, and Agneta Henrici. He studied in Turku (Åbo) from 1672 and in Uppsala from 1675 . He was offered a chair at the Royal Academy of Turku ; he chose a civil servant career instead. At the age of 28 (1683) he became president secretary in the Kammar College, which was subordinate to the Ministry of Finance . In 1685 he became a protocol secretary in the Statskontoret. In 1690 he was ennobled and took the name Lillienstedt. 1698 he was promoted to revisionssekreterare and member of lagkommissionen . In 1705 he became vice-president at the Wismar upper tribunal . During the following time he was from Karl XII. entrusted with several diplomatic missions, in the execution of which he showed great skill.

For his services he was made a baron in 1713, and in 1714 he was ombudsman . In the spring of 1719 Lillienstedt was raised to the rank of Reichsrat and before the end of the year to the rank of count. Even before joining the council, he had been chosen to represent Sweden at the Åland Peace Congress in place of Georg Heinrich von Görtz . When this was dissolved in autumn 1719, Lillienstedt came back to Sweden. In 1721 he negotiated the Uusikaupunki peace congress for Sweden and signed the Nystad peace with Russia . In 1727 Lillienstedt was appointed a council official at his own request and became president of the Wismar upper tribunal.

Lillienstedt was appointed Landshövding of Östergötland County in 1710 and remained so until 1714. In the first three years, however, he was entrusted with missions in Germany, so that Sven Ribbing and Conrad Riffelung represented him.

His literary activity sank from 1680. Like many of his contemporaries, he studied southern European poetry ( Skaldekonst ) and translated romantic poetry.

Lillienstedt was married to the baroness Brita Cronhielm from 1692 and to Margareta Törnflycht from 1698.

Johan Paulinus Lillienstedt was buried in Stralsund's Marienkirche . His tomb was made by Johann Baptist Xavery .
